Jerusha McDowell, The Track (LANDSCAPE 2025)
In the mountains ‘the track’ is more than a line on a map. The track offers a way through seemingly impenetrable bush and impassable terrain. The track provides water and safe passage in a landscape that can easily deny all. Knowledge of the old stock tracks has passed in an unbroken chain of custody stretching as far back as European settlement and sometimes even further. For the first pioneers and drovers into the mountains often followed pathways shown to them by aboriginal people. Taken in the tall Mountain Ash forests around the Bogong High Plains. Part of an ongoing project celebrating a vanishing legacy horsemanship in the beautiful landscape of Australia’s High Country.
