Michael Tomkinson, The Desert (LANDSCAPE 2023)

I captured this shot at "The Desert" on a recent family holiday to Moreton Island. The Desert is a great place to take the kids sand tobogganing so I was mainly there to get shots of them flying down long steep sand hills on their body boards. It was late in afternoon on a very windy day and the sun was sitting low in the sky causing the trees to be in total shade. I moved my attention away from the joyful screams of the kids for a moment to see if there were any artistic photo opportunities to capture. I noticed the afternoon sunlight was illuminating the peak of a largest sand hill, just a short distance away. It's contours were accentuated by the silhouetted trees in the background. I raised my camera, framed the shot and this was the result.
