Drew Buckmaster, Spiral Staircase UTS Sydney (URBAN 2026)
A study in high-contrast minimalism, the staircase unfurls like a ribbon of steel and stone. In strong, directional light, the structure becomes sculptural. The walls curve with a fluid precision, its matte surface absorbing the shadows, while the sharp edges catch a brilliant, metallic glint. Without color to distract, the eye follows the mesmerizing geometry of the central void—a perfect, plunging eye of darkness. It is a rhythmic dance of light and void, where modern engineering meets the timeless elegance of a seashell’s coil.
