Sally Kirsch, Sitting Bull at Arkaroola (LANDSCAPE 2025)

At the northern end of the Flinders Ranges lies the wonderful Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. Often at camp areas, there's a distinct lack of interesting subjects, but out on a long hike that day I just fell in love with the granite monolith of "Sitting Bull". To contemplate the age of this landscape is mind-bending - this particular formation is estimated at 1.6 billion years... So upon dark I hiked the 2km back out to the formation and spent the best part of an hour immersed in a scene that could have been 2024 or 24BC, there's no evidence of anything man made, nor light pollution, which would indicate what millennia you were in. THIS is what rocks my world.
