Keith Haggett, Rusting in Pink Lemonade (LANDSCAPE 2025)

An abandoned salt works grader, rusting away in the pink salt waters of Lake Tyrrell, at sunset. It takes a bit of effort to get out to the old abandoned grader, it’s a 3km walk - one way, usually through some water, and in gumboots. To go out for sunset means you are returning back to your vehicle, which is parked along a featureless horizon – in the dark, you do need GPS guidance to avoid getting lost. I have gone to this location twice, in the past 2 years. On my first visit I walked in about 1 inch of water, and the grader was high and dry. On this visit, there was much more water, about 1 foot deep, not quite up to the tops of my gumboots, a real slog for 3kms, 6kms all up. For all that effort I was rewarded with this stunning scene, water totally surrounded the abandoned grader. The water was that colour, I have only brightened and enhanced the contrast in this shot.
