Clayton Lloyd, Richers of Gold (URBAN 2026)

This photograph was taken inside one of Istanbul’s most beautiful temples. The moment I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed by the intricacy — every surface layered with detail, every curve and carving telling a story of devotion, artistry, and time. The richness of the gold tones and textured surfaces felt almost alive beneath the soft glow of the interior light. What drew me most, however, was the contrast between inside and out. Natural light streamed gently through the openings, brushing against the ornate details and giving them dimension and breath. I wanted to capture that meeting point — where the outside world quietly enters a sacred space, illuminating centuries of craftsmanship. The interplay of light against gold and texture created a sense of warmth and reverence, as if the architecture itself was absorbing and reflecting history. This image is my attempt to honour not just the beauty of the space, but the feeling of standing still within it — small, observant, and deeply aware of the human hands that created something so enduring.
