Nilmini De Silva, Ghostly Dance (AERIAL 2025)
I am fascinated by salt lakes. They are full of shapes, patterns and metaphor that enable me to create my own narrative, hence the title Ghostly Dance. Aerial photographers are captivated by the concept of pareidolia, the tendency for human perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus that cause us to interpret a pattern and give it meaning where none exists. I also love the play between light and dark in this image because white and black is often used by western societies to separate good and evil, right and wrong. I love the textural effect caused by the salt on the left which keeps pushing you to the right to look more closely at the colourful, ghostly dancers.
