Venkatesh Kittur, Boundaries of Time (URBAN 2025)
The artistic effect of the reflection of old architecture on a new building is a striking visual juxtaposition that blends the past with the present. It softens the rigid boundaries of time, making the ancient structure appear both distant and immediate, as if suspended in a moment of transition. It can evoke nostalgia or contemplation, offering a poetic commentary on how history and modernity coexist, sometimes in harmony and sometimes in tension, within the same urban space. The glass of the new building acts as a canvas, capturing the essence of the old in a distorted, abstract form. The play of light on the reflective surfaces adds another layer, with sunlight shifting the reflections, further enhancing the sense of transformation and impermanence. The overall effect is one of both contrast and continuity, where the old never truly disappears but is reinterpreted and reimagined in a new context.
