Jerusha McDowell, Wallace's Hut (LANDSCAPE 2026)

Nestled among ancient snow gums on the Bogong High Plains VIC, Wallace’s Hut was built in 1889 by the Scottish born Wallace brothers Arthur, William, and Stewart. Mountain stockmen like the Wallace’s spent months in the high country with the stock they pushed up to the alpine pastures. 

Thought to be the oldest surviving hut in the in the Victorian Alps it has stood for over 135 years. A weathered relic of Australia’s pioneering past, when the High Country was a world of endurance and quiet resilience.
