Morgan Jackson, The Windmill In The Wheat Field (LANDSCAPE 2026)

I saw this windmill years ago, and always wanted to get a photo of it with the bright wheat. The timing was never right, however, either due to bad weather or the field being fallow. Finally, on a bright and windy day I got the shot I wanted. By using an ND filter I was able to capture the movement of the wind through the wheat, blurring the stalks while leaving just enough sharp to show what's there. I enjoyed how this blur hints at the transient nature of the wheat, while keeping the steadfast windmill clear and sharp. I also enjoyed how the row of trees (lining the driveway to the nearby farmhouse) breaks up the symmetry and provides some unexpected interest towards the edge of the frame, helping to free the eye from being stuck in the middle and allowing it to wander around the frame.
