Clayton Lloyd, Sounds of sahara (LANDSCAPE 2026)
This image was captured during a once-in-a-lifetime, three-day journey into the Moroccan Sahara — two days crossing the vast Atlas Mountains, followed by a day immersed in the desert’s endless horizon. To reach this dune — one of the largest in the region — we travelled by camel for forty unforgettable minutes from our base camp. There were no roads, no voices, no distractions — just sand and sky. What struck me most was the silence. Not an empty silence, but a living one. The only sound I remember, so clearly and beautifully, was the soft, rhythmic compression of the camel’s feet pressing into the sand. Each step felt amplified in the stillness, as though the desert was allowing us to hear something we rarely notice in our busy lives it was a real stop moment. “Sounds of Sahara” is inspired by that profound quiet — a moment where time felt suspended, and the simplicity of sound became a unified oneness. It was more than a photograph; it was an experience of grand stillness I will never forget.
