Thomas Martin McShane, Roof of a Rural Road (LANDSCAPE 2026)
Kangaroo Island is itself a natural wonder. It's an island to be explored by road, from Seal Bay littered with sleepy sea lions to the unimaginably brilliant turquoise waters of Vivonne Bay and the aptly named Remarkable Rocks, perched on a cliff edge only minutes from a colony of fur seals who take turns riding the waves into rock pools at Admiral's Arch. But for me, what made the road trip truly magical were the tree-lined back roads, many which had crowned over to form mystical-like tunnels reminding me this was a truly special adventure. I was taken by the movement and motion of this undulating stretch, and its beauty was literally underlined when I returned late in the afternoon to capture the sun casting golden shadows across my path.
