Chris Laval, Remote Outback Red Sand Dune (LANDSCAPE 2026)

After numerous trip to the remote Outback town of Windorah about 1300km from home, I still couldn’t find the perfect clear sky for capturing the Milky Way is its total glory in one of Australia darkest sky. Late 2025, a window with good weather opened up and I went for it. I arrived at my favorite little red sand dune and the sky was clear, late Winter meaning crisp clear sky. I set up my camera on top of the dune and waited for the Milky Way to show up to take this composite image of tracked panorama and focus stacked for ground. On my return home, seeing the images in my computer and how good the Milky Way showed made it all worth the long travel.
