Tony Sernack, Outer dunes, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Brazil (LANDSCAPE 2026)
The Lençóis Maranhenses in northen Brazil, is a vast expanse of huge sand dunes sitting above a non porous rock layer. When it rains large lakes of crystal blue water form between the dunes. One evening with our guide, we ventured far into the interior of the park, where few people go. This image gives some idea of the dimension, remoteness and the sheer beauty of this special place. The dune in the top middle was at least 40m high and the white sands were starting to show a pinkish hue from the setting sun.
