Sheila Peake, Early morning at Shorncliffe Pier (SEASCAPE 2026)

An early start to photograph the sun rising over the Shorncliffe Pier, Brisbane, didn't eventuate. No sun, just a grey sky, as the light rose. Yet, the early morning timing was perfect to catch the colonial streetlamps along the pier, and the shelter reflecting their colours onto the still water. As the largest timber pier in Brisbane, it is a well-liked attraction close to Brisbane. Even in the early morning lots of people were fishing or just enjoying a walk in the cool May morning. The long exposure smoothed the water and tamed the building cloud, and the blue tone of the white balance complimented the mood of the morning. The white timber railings, framed the pier against the water and sky, creating a line for the eye to follow to the steps at end of the pier.
